Yasin Khan Palash, a 50-year-old individual formerly featured on the police list of top criminals, has succumbed to his injuries a week after being shot in Dhaka. The incident occurred within a month of his release from prison. Palash, widely known in the criminal underworld by his alias “Kailya Palash,” passed away at approximately 1:00 am on Saturday at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, according to Mohammad Asaduzzaman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station.
The fatal attack took place on 12 June at around 1:45 pm near his residence, located opposite the Bangladesh Television (BTV) building in the Rampura area of the capital. According to eyewitnesses, unidentified assailants arriving on a motorcycle opened fire on Palash before fleeing the scene. He sustained two gunshot wounds directly to his head. Following the shooting, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition. After receiving treatment there for two days, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital on Sunday night, where he subsequently died.
Palash had a significant criminal record and was previously convicted of the murder of Juba Dal leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan. Mizan was shot dead in Rampura on 29 May 2002. Although the trial court initially sentenced Palash to death for the crime, the higher court later commuted his sentence to life imprisonment. He was granted bail and released from prison just one month prior to the shooting.
Following the attack, Palash’s wife, Mahmuda Khanam, filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station, initially citing attempted murder. The First Information Report (FIR) names another notorious criminal, Jisan Ahmed Monti, as the primary accused. The complaint also names several other individuals as accomplices in the attack.

Speaking to our representative, OC Asaduzzaman clarified that while the names of the two detained individuals were not originally included in the FIR, subsequent police investigations verified their direct involvement in the crime. The police official stated that Imam Hossain was the driver of the motorcycle used by the gunmen during the assault, while Maruf Sultan was observed moving suspiciously around the crime scene to monitor the area.
