Three separate fatalities, including that of a young woman, have been reported across the Sadar, Bhulli, and Ranisankail upazilas of Thakurgaon district. The incidents, which occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning, involved two individuals found hanging and one who died in hospital after ingesting toxic gas tablets. Local police authorities have registered unnatural death cases for all three occurrences.
In Thakurgaon Sadar town, police recovered the body of 22-year-old Nusrat Jahan Iti from a rented residence. Originally a resident of Dakshin Sandarai village in Ranisankail upazila, Iti had moved to the town approximately five months ago to seek employment. Her family stated that their last contact with her was on 17 June. On the night of 19 June, a friend informed the family that Iti had not left her room or answered telephone calls for two days. Upon arriving at the property the following day, relatives found the door locked from the inside. After forcing entry, they discovered her hanging by a scarf from a window grille. The family noted she was under severe psychological duress due to unemployment and submitted a written statement to the police confirming they held no allegations against anyone.
In a separate incident in the Kachubari area under Bhulli Police Station, a 35-year-old farmer identified as Mahabur Rahman, who was a father of two, died from poisoning. According to his family, Rahman suffered from a long-standing addiction to online gambling and casinos, which had caused substantial financial losses and domestic instability. His father, Harun or Rashid, informed officials that Rahman became violently ill with vomiting and abdominal pain late on Saturday night. While being transported to the hospital, Rahman disclosed to his relatives that he had ingested three rodenticidal gas tablets. He succumbed to the toxins at 6:40 am on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital. No formal complaints were filed by his family.
The third fatality occurred in Ujdhari village within the Hosegaon Union of Ranisankail upazila, where 67-year-old Nasir Uddin was found dead. Relatives reported that Uddin had been suffering from chronic psychological medical issues and had failed to recover despite receiving various forms of medical treatment. On Saturday night, family members entered his room after he failed to respond to calls for dinner. They found him hanging from an iron angle-bar in the ceiling by a rope. With the assistance of local residents, his body was lowered. The family has raised no complaints regarding his death.
