Nasum Leaps Forward as ICC T20 Rankings Updated

A string of consistent performances against Australia has propelled Bangladeshi spinner Nasum Ahmed up the International Cricket Council (ICC) men’s T20I bowling rankings. Despite Bangladesh suffering a series defeat against the Australians, the latest statistical update issued by the global governing body on Wednesday brought individual consolation for a few select squad members. Alongside Nasum’s rapid ascent, batsmen Towhid Hridoy and Saif Hassan also registered subtle improvements on the back of their steady performances with the willow.

However, the wider picture remained bleak for the Tigers. The vast majority of the national squad suffered noticeable declines in their international standings following the conclusion of their recent fixtures.

Contrasting Fortunes in the Batting Department

Young opening batsman Tanzid Hasan Tamim remains the highest-ranked Bangladeshi player on the T20I batting list, though he dropped two places. He currently occupies the 29th position with a rating of 602 points. Directly below him, the emerging middle-order batsman Towhid Hridoy climbed nine places to secure the 30th spot globally. Saif Hassan also enjoyed a positive upward movement, surging 13 positions to sit comfortably at number 36.

In contrast, other top-order components faced a downward slide. Parvez Hossain Emon slipped two places to 49th, whilst an unfortunate injury layout kept Liton Das completely out of the Australian bilateral series. This enforced absence took a heavy toll on Liton’s standings, causing him to drop seven places down to the 60th position. Globally, India’s dynamic batsman Abhishek Sharma continues to rule the T20I batting rankings, sitting comfortably at the apex of the chart with an impressive 875 rating points.

Spinners Dominate the Bowling Landscape

The most dramatic movement occurred in the bowling charts, where left-arm orthodox spinner Nasum Ahmed reaped the rewards of his economical spells. Nasum leaped an astonishing 27 places to claim the 11th position in the world, accumulating a career-high 660 rating points.

His teammates did not share the same fortune. Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman dropped two places to find himself at the 15th spot. The spin duo of Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain also conceded significant ground; Mahedi fell seven places to rank 24th, whilst leg-spinner Rishad plummeted nine places to land at 33rd. Afghanistan’s talismanic spinner Rashid Khan maintains his firm grip on the global peak, leading all international bowlers with 753 rating points.

In the all-rounder category, Bangladesh lacked any significant presence near the top. Mahedi Hasan offered the sole highlight by climbing five places to 39th with 99 rating points. Zimbabwe’s veteran campaigner Sikandar Raza remains the premier T20I all-rounder in the world, leading the international grid with 328 rating points.
