Comilla Super Stars were crowned champions of the inaugural Bangla Hundred League (BHL) after defeating Chittagong Kings by five wickets in a thrilling final in Sydney. The contest remained finely balanced until the closing moments, with the result only confirmed with one delivery to spare, providing spectators with an absorbing finish to the tournament’s first edition.
After losing the toss, Chittagong Kings were sent in to bat and suffered an early setback with the loss of a wicket. Despite the difficult start, captain Kourab Akter steadied the innings with an outstanding display of batting. His commanding knock of 76 from 42 deliveries included eight boundaries and three sixes, allowing his side to recover and build a competitive total.
The remaining batters offered useful support, helping Chittagong Kings reach 142 for seven by the end of their allotted innings. The total gave their bowlers a realistic target to defend in a high-pressure championship match.
Comilla Super Stars approached the chase with confidence. Openers Labib Mahbub and Mehedi Hasan Ifti provided a solid platform, ensuring there was no early collapse. Labib contributed a valuable 28 runs before departing, while Ifti continued to anchor the innings with a combination of controlled stroke play and aggressive hitting.
Ifti produced the defining performance of the final, scoring an unbeaten 66 from just 30 balls. His innings kept Comilla firmly on course despite growing pressure from the opposition. As the target drew closer, Chittagong Kings fought back by claiming quick wickets, injecting fresh drama into the contest and raising hopes of a remarkable comeback.
The closing stages proved especially tense. With five runs required from the final five deliveries, the outcome remained uncertain. Comilla, however, held their nerve and completed the chase with one ball remaining, sealing a memorable five-wicket victory and becoming the first-ever champions of the Bangla Hundred League.
For his match-winning innings, Mehedi Hasan Ifti was named Player of the Final. Comilla captain Tanzilur Rahman enjoyed an equally impressive tournament, finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets. His consistent contributions with both bat and ball earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
Although Chittagong Kings fell short in the final, captain Kourab Akter finished the competition as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 250 runs, underlining his importance throughout the campaign.
The successful conclusion of the league’s inaugural season was welcomed by the organisers, who expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s reception. They also voiced hopes of expanding the competition for its second season by introducing more teams and additional attractions.
The first edition of the Bangla Hundred League has marked an encouraging step forward for the Bangladeshi cricket community in Sydney. With competitive matches, strong individual performances and enthusiastic support throughout the event, the tournament has laid a promising foundation for future editions and highlighted the continued growth of community cricket among the Bangladeshi diaspora in Australia.
