Five Robbers Arrested as Police Recover Stolen Covered Van

The Siddhirganj Thana Police have successfully apprehended five members of an organised robbery gang during a series of raids across the Siddhirganj and Fatullah areas in Narayanganj. Alongside the arrests, law enforcement officials recovered a hijacked covered van containing 614 stolen blankets. Details of the coordinated operation were released to journalists by senior police officers on Tuesday afternoon.

Acting on precise intelligence, a specialised police team launched the operation at approximately 5:30 am on Tuesday, 7 July. The raids were conducted under the direct supervision of Mohammad Emdadul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station, and led by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Masum Billah. Squads targeted multiple suspected hideouts across both the Siddhirganj and Fatullah jurisdictions, catching the suspects off guard.

The detained individuals have been identified as Abdur Rahim, 42, Mohammad Faruq (also known as Babu), 40, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, 40, Abdul Gaffar, 37, and Abdur Rahman, 30. Preliminary investigations indicate that these men belong to an inter-district robbery syndicate known for targeting commercial freight vehicles operating along major highways.

According to the police, the gang recently intercepted the covered van, overpowered its crew, and fled with the vehicle and its cargo. The stolen blankets, likely intended for wholesale distribution or winter relief markets, were concealed within a makeshift storage facility until the police intervened. Both the commercial vehicle and its entire consignment were recovered intact during the morning raids.

Narayanganj has historically faced security challenges due to its status as a major industrial hub, with highways frequently heavily trafficked by cargo vehicles laden with manufactured goods, garments, and raw materials. Syndicates often target these goods for resale in local grey markets.

Following the successful recovery, authorities are preparing to initiate formal legal proceedings against the five suspects. Siddhirganj police confirmed that a robbery case has been registered, and the suspects will be produced before the court with a remand prayer to facilitate deeper interrogation into the wider network of the syndicate.
