Dhaka Metropolitan Police have recovered the hanging body of an unidentified young man from an abandoned property in the Banglamotor area, falling under the jurisdiction of Shahbagh Police Station. The deceased, estimated to be around 28 years old, was discovered on Saturday morning, triggering an immediate police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene at approximately 10:45 am after receiving an emergency alert through the national helpline, 999. Upon arriving at the deserted residential site, which reportedly belongs to a local individual named Saiful Islam, officers discovered the man’s body hanging from a tree on the premises.
Following the initial on-site assessment, authorities retrieved the body and transferred it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue at around 12:30 pm for a post-mortem examination. Crime scene investigators have cordoned off the area to secure any potential evidence.
Sub-Inspector Shahdul Islam of Shahbagh Police Station stated that preliminary findings point towards suicide. However, he emphasised that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed once the official autopsy report is released by the medical examiners. The police have also mobilised the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) crime scene unit to gather forensic data from the property.
Abandoned buildings and unmaintained plots in densely populated sectors of Dhaka frequently become safety concerns for local neighbourhoods, often drawing illicit activities due to a lack of oversight. Local residents have expressed growing anxiety over the security risks posed by such neglected structures in the commercial hub of Banglamotor.
As the deceased carried no identification documents, police are utilising biometric technology and fingerprint analysis to establish his identity. Standard missing person databases across different police stations are being checked to see if any matches exist. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
