Fire Erupts at Kamrangirchar Footwear Factory

A fire broke out at a footwear factory in the Madbar Bazar area of Kamrangirchar in the Bangladeshi capital on Friday afternoon, prompting an immediate emergency response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

According to fire officials, the blaze was reported at 3:12 pm on 17 July. Shortly after receiving the emergency call, two firefighting units were dispatched to the scene and began efforts to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Confirming the incident, Fire Service duty officer Rozina Khanom said two firefighting units were actively working at the affected factory in Kamrangirchar’s Madbar Bazar area. She added that emergency crews moved quickly to tackle the blaze upon arrival.

At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire had not been determined. Authorities also said there was no immediate information regarding casualties, injuries or the extent of damage to the factory and its contents. Fire officials indicated that a full assessment would only be possible once the flames had been completely extinguished and the site had been declared safe for inspection.

The footwear manufacturing sector is one of the many small and medium-sized industries operating in densely populated parts of Dhaka, where factories are often located close to residential and commercial buildings. Such conditions can make firefighting operations particularly challenging, as emergency responders must work to contain the blaze while preventing it from spreading to surrounding structures.

Following the completion of firefighting operations, investigators are expected to examine the scene to determine how the fire started. Standard procedure includes assessing whether the blaze was caused by an electrical fault, combustible materials or another factor, although officials have not suggested any possible cause at this stage.

Authorities are expected to release further details once the fire is fully under control and a preliminary investigation has been completed.
