Three Family Members Electrocuted to Death in Chapainawabganj Tragedy

A heart-wrenching domestic accident has claimed the lives of three members of the same family in Chapainawabganj district, following a lethal electrocution incident caused by rainwater exposure. The tragic event took place on Tuesday morning in the Baroghoria-Badurtala area under Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila, casting a pall of profound grief over the local community.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station, Ekramul Hossain, confirmed the fatalities and provided details regarding the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Hasina Begum, wife of local resident Mohammad Bhikhu; her niece, Asha Khatun; and Asha’s young daughter, Mim. All three victims belonged to the Badurtala neighbourhood.

According to police and local sources, the tragedy unfolded when continuous morning rainfall caused water to accumulate around the homestead. A metal iron ladder kept near the residence became live after coming into contact with a exposed electrical connection amidst the wet conditions. Unaware of the lurking danger, Asha Khatun and her daughter, Mim, attempted to climb the rainwater-drenched iron ladder. The moment they made contact with the structure, both were instantly gripped by a powerful electrical current.

Seeing Asha and her daughter trapped and struggling, Hasina Begum rushed forward in a desperate attempt to rescue them. However, without realizing that the entire metallic frame was fully energized, she too came into contact with the ladder and was electrocuted on the spot. All three victims died at the scene before any meaningful help could be rendered.

Alerted by the commotion, neighbours gathered at the house, but the victims had already succumbed to the intense shock. Police officers from Chapainawabganj Sadar Model Police Station arrived shortly afterwards upon receiving information, recovering the three bodies from the premises and completing the preliminary inquest procedures.

OC Ekramul Hossain stated that the fatal electrocution occurred primarily due to the rain-soaked iron ladder becoming electrified. He added that law enforcement personnel have secured the scene and initiated necessary legal procedures to formally investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
