Touhid Afridi Secures Bail in All Three Cases

Content creator Touhid Afridi has secured bail in a fraud case filed with Wari Police Station in the capital, completing the bail process in all three cases pending against him, according to his lawyer. His legal counsel said there is now no further legal obstacle to his release from custody, subject to the completion of the required court procedures.

The bail application was heard on Tuesday (21 July) before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted Afridi bail in the case filed with Wari Police Station.

Afridi’s lawyer, Iqbal Mahmud Shovon, said his client is facing three cases in total. He had already obtained bail from the High Court in two of them. With Tuesday’s order in the Wari Police Station fraud case, bail has now been secured in all three cases, the lawyer said.

According to the lawyer, no other case remains that would legally prevent Afridi from being released from prison. His release, however, will depend on the completion of formal legal procedures and the submission of any necessary bail bonds and related documents.

Afridi was shown arrested in the Wari Police Station case on 15 June. The case centres on allegations of financial fraud allegedly carried out through an online scam network.

According to the case documents, the alleged fraud began on 13 January 2025, when the victim was contacted through WhatsApp and Telegram with an offer of employment. The alleged fraudsters subsequently encouraged the victim to invest money in several stages. At the initial stage, small amounts were reportedly returned, allegedly to build the victim’s confidence in the scheme.

After gaining the victim’s trust, the group allegedly persuaded her to invest larger sums. The complaint states that the victim was later promised that her investment, along with profits, would be returned. However, the money was allegedly not repaid. The case alleges that a total of Tk 235,000 was taken from the victim.

After failing to recover the money, Syeda Ashfa Toaha Dyuti filed the case with Wari Police Station against unidentified individuals. The allegations against Afridi remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.

The granting of bail does not amount to an acquittal or a finding that the allegations are untrue. The investigation will continue, and any subsequent legal proceedings will take place in accordance with the law. The court will ultimately determine the merits of the allegations based on the evidence and arguments presented during the judicial process.

Afridi was previously arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Barishal on the night of 24 August last year. He was subsequently shown arrested in several cases filed in connection with the anti-discrimination movement and was also taken on remand for questioning in some of those cases.

A well-known content creator with a substantial presence on social media, Afridi has remained a familiar figure in Bangladesh’s online entertainment landscape. His activities and personal life have frequently attracted discussion across social media platforms. In recent months, however, legal proceedings involving him have drawn much of the public attention surrounding his name.

Following Tuesday’s bail order, his lawyer reiterated that Afridi has now obtained bail in all three cases against him. With no further case currently standing in the way of his release, his legal team expects him to be freed once the necessary formalities are completed.
