Tragically Electrocuting Young Man in Faridpur Leaves Three Injured

A tragic accident in Faridpur’s Sadarpur upazila claimed the life of a 27-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon, while three others sustained injuries after coming into contact with live electricity during a desperate rescue effort. The fatal incident occurred at Purba Shouldubi village under the Krishnapur Union, plunging the local community into mourning.

The deceased has been identified as Milon Matubbar, son of Abdur Rob Matubbar, a resident of Purba Shouldubi. According to police reports and local eyewitness accounts, the disaster unfolded when a primary power transmission wire severed from a nearby utility pole and collapsed onto the roof of a cattle shed. The fallen cable caused high-voltage electric currents to surge through three adjacent residential dwellings and surrounding structures within the compound.

Unaware of the danger following a bath, Milon Matubbar walked into his courtyard to hang wet clothes on a galvanized iron (GI) drying line. The wire, having become fully charged by the grounded current, electrocuted Milon instantly upon contact. Hearing his cries for help, three bystanders—Mithu Matubbar, 30, Hena Begum, 24, and Obaidur Sheikh, 30—rushed forward to assist him, only to be struck by the powerful electric current themselves.

Alarmed neighbors quickly contacted the Katakhali electricity sub-station, prompting emergency personnel to immediately disconnect the main power line supplying the locality. Villagers then rushed all four victims to the Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, the attending physician pronounced Milon Matubbar dead. Due to the severe nature of their injuries, the three surviving rescuers were provided emergency first aid and swiftly transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where they remain under close medical observation.

Upon receiving news of the fatality, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Roni Khalashi of Sadarpur Police Station dispatched an investigative team to inspect the scene and perform an official inquest report on the deceased at the hospital. Sadarpur police confirmed that formal legal and administrative procedures regarding the incident are currently under way, with inquiries focusing on power distribution line maintenance and safety standards in rural residential sectors.
