Young woman gang-raped in Charghat while returning home after Arabic lessons

Police in Charghat Upazila, Rajshahi, have launched a search for three suspects accused of abducting and gang-assaulting a young married woman in a jute field. The incident reportedly occurred as the victim was returning home from evening religious studies at a local mosque.

The victim’s mother filed a formal complaint at Charghat Model Police Station on Wednesday, naming three local youths as the perpetrators. All three suspects absconded shortly after the crime occurred.

Law enforcement authorities identified the accused as Limon Islam, 22, son of Anwar Hossain; Shitu Alam, 18, son of Jahangir Alam; and Shiba Rahman, 16, son of Sabibur Rahman. All three reside in Shrikhandi village under Charghat Upazila.

According to police filings and local sources, the victim had recently married, though she remains underage. Her husband works at a garment factory in Dhaka, which led her to reside at her parental home alongside her mother in the Yusufpur Union.

The police statement indicates that on Tuesday night, 21 July, at around 9:00 pm, the young woman was walking home after attending Arabic lessons at the village mosque. The three youths intercepted her along the path, forcibly dragged her into an adjacent jute field, and assaulted her before fleeing the scene.

The victim managed to return home and inform her mother about the assault. On Wednesday morning, her family transported her to the Upazila Health Complex for medical care. Following the medical evaluation, the victim’s mother proceeded to the police station to file the formal case.

Confirming the development, Abdul Malek, Officer-in-Charge of Charghat Model Police Station, stated that the case has been officially registered under the relevant legal statutes. He assured that law enforcement teams are carrying out raids across the area to apprehend the three fugitives and bring them before the judicial system.
