Arijit Singh Outraged Over Police Crackdown on Demonstrating Students

Renowned playback singer Arijit Singh has expressed intense indignation following a heavy-handed police crackdown on students protesting in New Delhi. Taking to social media platforms, the acclaimed artist leveled sharp criticism at government ministers and the Delhi Police for their aggressive measures against the young demonstrators.

In a scathing post, Singh directly challenged the authorities, questioning whether they considered themselves divine. He wrote that beating up students had now become acceptable practice for law enforcement, warning officials that these actions would not be forgotten and reminding them that change remains the ultimate truth.

The student demonstrations in the Indian capital have persisted for more than a fortnight. Protesters have taken to the streets to voice their opposition to widespread irregularities in the education sector, specifically highlighting the alleged question paper leaks associated with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). While organizers maintained that their gatherings were entirely peaceful, police officers moved in forcefully to disperse the crowds, deploying baton charges and firing tear gas canisters into the assemblies. Video footage of officers striking unarmed students rapidly circulated online, triggering widespread public condemnation across the nation.

Singh is not the only prominent figure to speak out against the police response. A growing number of cultural icons and Bollywood personalities have rallied behind the student movement, including veteran actors Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sonakshi Sinha. Prominent social activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the agitation, embarking on a hunger strike in solidarity with the students before being taken into medical custody and admitted to hospital by police personnel.

As public outrage continues to mount over the treatment of the young protesters, prominent public figures and intellectuals across India have called upon the government to de-escalate tensions immediately. They are urging state authorities to initiate constructive dialogue with student representatives to address their grievances regarding educational integrity and reach a peaceful resolution.
