Satkhira Awami League General Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Detained in Capital

The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Md Nazrul Islam, the General Secretary of the Satkhira District Awami League—a political party whose operational activities are currently banned—from the capital city of Dhaka.

The arrest took place at approximately 12:00 pm on Monday during a targeted operation carried out at his residence in the Bashundhara Residential Area. The matter was officially confirmed later in the afternoon by Additional Commissioner (DB) of the DMP, Shafiqul Islam.

According to senior police officials, Md Nazrul Islam faces multiple criminal charges lodged against him across various police stations. These ongoing legal cases prompted the coordinated intelligence-led raid that resulted in his detention. DMP Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam noted that the process of initiating formal legal proceedings against the arrested leader is currently underway, and he will be produced before the court following preliminary interrogation.
