Ronaldo Joins Television With New Drama Series

Cristiano Ronaldo is preparing for a new chapter beyond football, stepping into the entertainment industry as both an executive producer and actor. After building one of the most decorated careers in world football, the Portuguese superstar is now expanding his portfolio with a British television drama, marking one of his most ambitious projects away from the pitch.

Ronaldo has signed on as the executive producer of an upcoming television series titled The Day Ones. In addition to overseeing the project behind the scenes, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will also make a special on-screen appearance. While details of his role remain under wraps, the announcement has already generated considerable interest among football supporters and television audiences alike.

The series revolves around Stanley Dalton, a fictional football agent navigating the highly competitive and often unpredictable world of professional football. The lead role is played by acclaimed British actor Damian Lewis, best known for his performances in Homeland and Billions. Production is already underway, with recent filming taking place at Barnet FC’s ground in north-west London.

Industry insiders say the drama aims to provide an inside look at the modern football business, exploring player representation, commercial negotiations, personal relationships and the power dynamics that shape the sport behind closed doors. Rather than focusing on events on the pitch, the story is expected to examine the people who influence careers away from match day.

The project will also feature French football legend Thierry Henry in a special appearance. Reports suggest the original concept was inspired by ideas from Darren Dein, Henry’s long-time real-life agent, lending the storyline an added sense of authenticity despite its fictional setting.

A production source has indicated that several streaming platforms are likely to compete for the distribution rights. With globally recognised figures involved both in front of and behind the camera, the series is already being viewed as a high-profile production with significant international appeal.

Although football-themed television has enjoyed growing popularity in recent years, the creators stress that The Day Ones is not intended to follow the light-hearted formula of Ted Lasso. Instead, it has been developed as a character-driven drama with occasional moments of humour, placing greater emphasis on ambition, loyalty, rivalry and the commercial realities of elite football.

The series is being produced by UR Marv Studios, a production company established earlier this year by Ronaldo and British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn, the director behind films such as Kingsman and Kick-Ass, has spoken of his ambition to develop original entertainment that pushes beyond conventional filmmaking.

Speaking when the studio was launched, Vaughn praised Ronaldo’s remarkable career, saying the football icon had created stories on the pitch that few screenwriters could ever imagine. He added that he was looking forward to collaborating with Ronaldo on bringing equally inspiring stories to audiences through film and television.

Ronaldo also described the venture as an exciting new stage in his life, expressing optimism about pursuing creative opportunities outside football while continuing his sporting career.

Now 41, Ronaldo remains captain of Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr and continues to be one of the most recognisable athletes in the world. Having enjoyed trophy-laden spells with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and the Portuguese national team, he is now seeking to establish a presence in the entertainment industry as well.

The cast of The Day Ones also includes British rapper Dave and newcomer Carlotta Banat. However, the producers have yet to announce an official release date or confirm which streaming platform will premiere the series.
