Three Dead, Including Two Sisters, in Head-On Ramu Crash

Three people, including two sisters, have been killed and three others severely injured following a head-on collision between a lorry and a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw in Ramu Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.

The fatal accident occurred around 2:00 pm on Monday, 27 July 2026, along the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf Highway in the Skoolpahar area under Khuniyapalang Union. All the casualties were passengers travelling inside the three-wheeled auto-rickshaw.

The two female victims were identified as Rubina Akter and her sister Shahina Akter, daughters of Jafar Alam, residing in the Harinmara area of Ukhiya Upazila. Police had not been able to establish the identity of the deceased male passenger as of 6:00 pm. Three other passengers remain admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital with critical injuries.

According to police and eyewitness accounts, the two sisters had travelled from Ukhiya to the Cox’s Bazar court on Monday morning to attend a legal hearing regarding a family dispute. After finishing their court business, they boarded the auto-rickshaw around 1:30 pm to return home.

The vehicle, which was carrying six people including the driver, reached the Skoolpahar area in Ramu around 2:00 pm when an oncoming lorry crashed head-on into it. The impact killed the unidentified male passenger instantly at the scene. Local residents rushed to assist, rescuing the remaining injured occupants and transporting them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the two sisters succumbed to their injuries whilst receiving medical care.

Abdul Gafur, an eyewitness who was taking his children to tuition, recounted seeing the collision unfold right before his eyes. Ramu Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sukanta Chakraborty confirmed the three fatalities and stated that law enforcement authorities are taking necessary legal action regarding the incident.
