Nahida Akter Named Captain as Bangladesh Announce Emerging Nations Squad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has officially unveiled a 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, handing the captaincy to experienced left-arm spinner Nahida Akter. The national side is scheduled to depart for the United Arab Emirates on 10 November to participate in the regional visual tournament, which serves as a crucial platform for nurturing top-tier talent and broadening competitive exposure within women’s international cricket.

The appointment marks a significant transition in leadership for the squad following the resignation of long-standing skipper Nigar Sultana Joty. Under Joty’s tenure, Bangladesh achieved notable milestones on the global stage, including key victories in regional qualifiers and improved performances against top-ranked opposition. Although she has stepped down from the leadership position to manage her workload, the seasoned wicketkeeper-batter remains an integral fixture in the setup, providing vital tactical guidance and middle-order stability to assist her successor.

Taking the reins during a pivotal rebuilding phase, Nahida brings a wealth of international experience to the role. Renowned for her economical bowling spells and discipline in white-ball formats, the 24-year-old spinner has consistently been amongst the most dependable performers for Bangladesh across international assignments. Assisting her in the leadership structure is top-order batter Sobhana Mostary, who has been named vice-captain.

The selection committee has maintained a balance of youth and experience in the lineup, retaining core international regulars alongside emerging domestic talent. Top-order batters Sharmin Akhter Supta and Dilara Akter feature in the squad, while all-rounder Shorna Akter and veteran Ritu Moni add balance to the middle order. The bowling contingent combines spin and pace variations, highlighted by leg-spinner Rabeya Khan, senior campaigner Fahima Khatun, and fast bowlers Marufa Akter’s peers, including Disha Biswas and Fariha Islam Trisna.

The tournament in the United Arab Emirates presents an essential testing ground for Bangladesh as they evaluate tactical combinations and depth before upcoming international series.
