Woman’s Body Found During Football Search

Police have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from a wooded area inside the Jhilmil Residential Project in South Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, after local boys stumbled upon the remains while searching for a football on Friday morning.

According to police, the body has been sent to the morgue at Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The victim’s identity had not been established at the time of reporting, and investigators are working to determine who she was and the circumstances surrounding her death.

Local resident and tea stall owner Abu Sayeed Mia said that, as on most mornings, boys from nearby neighbourhoods had gathered inside the Jhilmil Residential Project to play football. During the match, the ball rolled into a nearby wooded area. When several of the players entered the undergrowth to retrieve it, they discovered the body of a woman lying on the ground.

The boys immediately alerted nearby residents, who then informed South Keraniganj Police Station. Officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, secured the area, and recovered the body before sending it for forensic examination.

Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam of South Keraniganj Police Station said preliminary observations suggest that the woman may have been killed elsewhere before her body was abandoned in the isolated woodland. Visible injury marks were found on the body, raising suspicions of homicide. He stressed, however, that the exact cause of death would only be confirmed after the post-mortem report is completed.

Police have launched an investigation to establish the victim’s identity and reconstruct the events leading to her death. Officers are examining all available evidence from the scene and collecting information from local residents to determine how and when the body was left in the area.

The discovery has caused concern among people living near the residential project, with many gathering at the scene after news of the incident spread. Investigators are expected to review all relevant leads as part of their efforts to identify those responsible.

Authorities said legal proceedings are under way, and further details will be released as the investigation progresses and forensic findings become available.
