In a heartbreaking incident at Darshana Halt Railway Station in Chuadanga district, a 25-year-old mother tragically lost her life after stepping in front of an oncoming train, leaving her four-year-old son sitting alone on the station platform. The victim, identified as Nilufa Khatun, was the wife of Nazrul Islam from Joyrampur village in Damurhuda Upazila, Chuadanga.
The incident unfolded late on Friday night, 31st July, at around midnight. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that as a passenger train was entering the platform at Darshana Halt, Nilufa Khatun suddenly stepped onto the tracks directly into the path of the approaching engine. Bystanders and railway onlookers rushed to her aid immediately following the impact, pulling her from the tracks and transporting her to a nearby private clinic in Darshana. However, attending physicians declared her dead upon arrival due to the severity of her injuries.
A poignant detail that emerged from the scene was the presence of her four-year-old son, whom she had seated on the platform prior to the incident. Local residents quickly alerted the authorities, ensuring the young child was cared for amid the chaotic aftermath.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Darshana Railway Police Outpost, Rafiqul Islam, confirmed the details of the tragedy, stating that police officers managed to trace and contact her family members using her mobile phone found at the scene. He confirmed that the four-year-old boy remains safe under the protective custody of the railway police. Authorities are completing the necessary legal formalities before handing over the victim’s body and reuniting the young child with his family members.
