Missing Child Found Dead In Rice Mill Boiling Water Pond

A tragic incident unfolded in Mahadevpur upazila under Naogaon district as fire service personnel recovered the body of a 12-year-old child from a hazardous pond containing boiler wastewater and hot ash. The deceased boy has been identified as Real Islam, son of Farooq Hossain Bachchu hailing from Khordda Kalna village in Khajur union. The body was retrieved on Saturday evening from the Tanjida Auto Rice Mill situated in Kunjaban village.

According to family members and local residents, Real was mentally challenged. Because his parents worked and lived in Dhaka to earn a livelihood, he resided in the village under the care of his maternal grandparents. On Wednesday morning at around 11:00 am, the boy suddenly vanished without a trace. Relatives searched frantically across nearby localities for days, but their efforts yielded no results until Saturday evening.

The mystery surrounding his disappearance ended when villagers noticed a pair of sandals floating on the surface of an open waste pond inside Tanjida Auto Rice Mill, owned locally by Zillu Haji. The reservoir is used by the mill to collect scalding water discharged from boilers alongside hot ash residue. Suspecting that the missing boy might have fallen into the hazardous pit, residents immediately alerted local emergency services.

Responding promptly to the call, a rescue team from the Mahadevpur Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the facility. Under the leadership of Acting Station Officer Md Abul Kashem, firefighters conducted an operation in the challenging conditions of the heated reservoir. At around 8:00 pm, rescuers managed to retrieve the submerged body of the young boy.

Police officers subsequently arrived to conduct preliminary inquiries and complete the necessary inquest procedures. Md Omar Farooq, Officer-in-Charge of Mahadevpur Police Station, confirmed the incident and stated that preparations are underway to register an unnatural death case in connection with the tragic drowning.
