BERC Raises Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices By 70 Taka

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a fresh price hike for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the consumer level for the month of August. Under the new pricing structure, the retail cost of a standard 12-kilogram LPG cylinder has risen by 70 Taka, reaching 1,598 Taka compared to its previous rate of 1,528 Taka.

The energy regulator formally announced the updated tariffs for August through an official press notice released on Sunday, 2 August. According to the directive issued by BERC, the revised pricing includes value-added tax (VAT) at retail points across the country, affecting both domestic households and commercial users.

The price adjustment came into effect at 6:00 pm on Sunday. Officials from the regulatory agency confirmed that the new retail prices will remain valid across all distribution networks until further orders are promulgated.

Beyond the popular 12-kilogram household cylinders, BERC adjusted rates across all LPG variants by setting the base price at 133.17 Taka per kilogram. This marks a notable increase from July, when the rate stood at 127.34 Taka per kilogram. Consequently, larger cylinders used in commercial establishments and industrial units will see a proportional price increase based on their weight capacity.

Motorists using liquefied petroleum gas as fuel will also face higher operational costs. The price of autogas, the variant used in motor vehicles, has been raised to 73.50 Taka per litre. This represents an increase of 3.30 Taka per litre from July’s fixed rate of 70.20 Taka.

National LPG prices in Bangladesh are calculated in accordance with global market movements, primarily tracking the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) for propane and butane. BERC stated that adjustments in international import costs necessitated the upward revision for the local market, promising routine monitoring at retail outlets to ensure compliance with the newly established rates.
