A major anti-narcotics drive conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Jashore district resulted in the arrest of a 54-year-old woman along with a substantial consignment of illegal substances. The accused, identified as Ambia Begum (also reported as Ambia Khatun), wife of local rickshaw-van driver Akbar Ali, was apprehended during a raid at her residence located in the South Buruzbagan Jorpara area—a neighborhood widely known in the locality as a narcotics hotspot under Sharsha Upazila.

The operation was launched early Tuesday morning, around 8:00 AM, following precise actionable intelligence received by the Jashore district office of the DNC regarding stored contraband intended for local distribution. Acting on the information, a specialized operational team under the leadership of Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiza Khatun raided the targeted residence. Upon entering and conducting a thorough search of Ambia Begum’s personal bedroom, officers uncovered a total of 6,000 pieces of Yaba tablets hidden inside the premises.

Legal Action and Ongoing Anti-Drug Crackdown

Following the recovery of the illegal pills, the law enforcement team immediately seized the contraband as evidence and took Ambia Begum into custody directly from the spot. Formal legal proceedings were initiated shortly after, with Sub-Inspector Rafiza Khatun filing a regular criminal case against the detainee at the local Sharsha Police Station under the stringent provisions of the Narcotics Control Act.
