Youth Found Dead Near Abandoned Flour Mill After Night Call

A 30-year-old man was found dead beside an abandoned flour mill in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, on Monday morning, hours after he was reportedly called out of his home at night on the pretext of having a conversation.

Police recovered the body of the man, identified as Laizu, from beside the abandoned flour mill in the Mogam Tuli area near Phasitola Bazar under Kamardah Union. The site is located alongside the Dhaka-Rangpur highway.

Laizu was the son of the late Abul Kashem of Kamardah Nayapara, also known locally as Felukara village, in the same union.

According to local residents, the body was spotted beside the building of the disused flour mill early on Monday. People in the area informed the police after discovering the body. Officers from Gobindaganj Police Station subsequently went to the scene, recovered the body and began the initial investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Laizu’s death have raised questions among his family and local residents. His mother told police that Laizu left home at around 8pm on Sunday after Shahinur, a resident of the same village, allegedly called him to a threshing floor saying that he needed to speak with him.

Laizu did not return home afterwards. His family became increasingly concerned during the night. On Monday morning, they reportedly learned that his body had been found beside the abandoned flour mill.

The discovery of the body has prompted police to examine the events between the time Laizu left home and when he was found dead. Investigators are expected to establish who he met, where he went after leaving the threshing floor and how he came to be at the flour mill site.

Police have not yet confirmed whether the death was caused by an assault or any other criminal act. The exact circumstances will depend on the findings of the investigation and the post-mortem examination.

Gobindaganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Swapan Kumar Sarker said the body had been recovered and preparations were under way to send it for a post-mortem examination after completion of the inquest.

He said the investigation was continuing to determine the actual cause of Laizu’s death.

The post-mortem report is expected to provide important evidence regarding the circumstances of the death, while investigators are also likely to question people who were with Laizu before he disappeared and gather information from the area where the body was recovered.
