A crude bomb explosion triggered widespread panic among lawyers and litigants at the Barishal District and Sessions Judge Court premises on Wednesday morning. The blast occurred at approximately 10:45 am on 12 August, detonating with a loud bang near the judicial building close to the court’s main entrance gate.
Despite the intensity of the blast, authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were sustained.
According to eye-witnesses and police sources, the explosion scattered glass fragments and mud across the immediate surroundings. The sudden noise reverberated through the bustling courtyard during peak hours, causing visitors, legal practitioners, and court officials to flee in search of safety. Law enforcement officers stationed nearby secured the perimeter shortly after the incident.
Senior judicial officers and high-ranking police personnel rushed to inspect the site following the blast. Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh, accompanied by judges from the court, personally evaluated the scene and instructed forensic teams to expedite their investigation.
Specialist officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police arrived at the location to collect physical evidence, including explosive residues and shrapnel, to identify the chemical composition and origin of the device.
Addressing reporters, BMP Deputy Commissioner Sushanta Sarkar confirmed that forensic experts are investigating the matter. He stated that comprehensive details regarding the motive and identity of those responsible would be released once the official CID report is finalized.
In the wake of the incident, security measures across the court compound have been reinforced. Police units have deployed additional personnel at key access points, while strict screening protocols have been introduced for anyone entering the premises to prevent further security breaches.
