Sarjis Alam, chief organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that no election should take place in the country until Sheikh Hasina is brought to justice.
Speaking to the media at Rayerbazar graveyard in Dhaka today (March 4) after visiting the graves of the July uprising martyrs, Sarjis delivered an impassioned statement.
“How can we think about anything else in Bangladesh until the murderer is brought to justice?” he said. “No one should even mention elections until Sheikh Hasina is held accountable. There will be no election in Bangladesh until the murderer Hasina is seen on the gallows.”
Sarjis stressed the need for Hasina’s trial, invoking the memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for justice. “The brothers who died on the streets and the mothers who still weep – we want to see Hasina’s trial before we die. I urge everyone to stand with us and support these grieving mothers in their fight for justice,” he declared.
He further asserted that Hasina must be brought back to Bangladesh to face trial and be held accountable for her actions.
The event saw a large turnout of NCP leaders and activists, including the party’s Convenor Nahid Islam, Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Southern Region’s Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah, and Senior Joint Chief Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud.
Earlier that morning, NCP leaders paid tribute at the National Memorial in Savar at 8:30 a.m. before proceeding to the cemetery.
