Woman Arrested with Huge Cache of Hemp in Jamalpur

Jamalpur, 22nd July 2025 — A Detective Branch (DB) of Police team successfully recovered a substantial quantity of hemp and arrested an alleged drug peddler during a raid in Melandah Upazila of Jamalpur district early this morning.

Police Operation Details

Acting on intelligence information, the police team carried out a raid in Rayer Bakai village under the Phulkocha union of the upazila. During the operation, the officers recovered 74 kilograms of hemp, valued at approximately Taka 22.20 lakh. This significant find is believed to be part of a larger narcotics trafficking operation.

Arrest and Further Actions

The police arrested Mst Suzeda, aged 38, the wife of Belal Miah, a resident of the village. She was taken into custody in connection with the seizure of the hemp.

Following the raid and arrest, a case was filed with the Melandah Police Station, and investigations are currently underway to uncover the broader network of the drug trade.

Police Statement

According to Md Nazmus Sakib, the Officer-in-Charge of the District Detective Branch, the operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the region. He confirmed that further investigations would follow, and efforts to track down other potential individuals involved in the illegal trade were in progress.
