Ayub Bachchu’s Birth Anniversary Honoured With Heritage Album Launch

Music fans across Bangladesh are commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary rock star Ayub Bachchu with the launch of Uttoradhikar (Heritage), a special 20-track tribute album celebrating his decades-long career. The commemorative release features newly recorded interpretations of his most iconic songs by prominent bands and musicians, coinciding with a vibrant tribute concert hosted in the hill tract region of Bandarban.

The tracks selected for Uttoradhikar encompass Bachchu’s most celebrated compositions, including ‘Cholo Bodle Jai’, ‘Hashte Dekho’, ‘Ghumonto Shohore’, ‘Ekhon Onek Rat’, ‘Koshto Pete Bhalobashi’, ‘Ferari Ei Mon’, ‘Bangladesh’, and ‘Mon Chaile Mon’. The initiative features a stellar collection of musical acts, such as the bands Dalchhut, Arbovirus, Sonar Bangla Circus, Shuvoyatra, Calypso, Rocksalt, and Dopamine. Individual contributions were provided by artists A.K. Rahul, Babna Karim, Russell Ali, Romel Ali, Chandan Zaman Ali-Menon, Kaniz Suborna, Sazzad, Palash, Joy Shahriar, Adit, Bakhtiar Hossain, Atika Yamin, and Autumnal Moon.

Sound mastering for the entire project was completed by veteran musician Iqbal Asif Jewel. Distributed by the Ayub Bachchu Foundation, the album is available digitally and as a physical compact disc. Financial proceeds from Uttoradhikar will directly support the creation of the Ayub Bachchu Museum, a dedicated cultural project aimed at housing the late artist’s extensive collection of guitars, sound equipment, and personal archives.

Ferdous Akhtar Chandana, Chairman of the Ayub Bachchu Foundation and widow of the legendary guitarist, announced the release during a press briefing held to unveil the CD design and discuss the long-term memorial plans for the foundation.

Complementing the release, ‘The Band Music of Bandarban’ organised ‘A Tribute to Ayub Bachchu Concert’ at the Small Ethnic Groups Cultural Institute Auditorium. The event featured performances by 10 local music groups—Tune Bar, FM, Nirbak, Heartbeat, Consensus, Luminous Void, Shororitu, Nineties Boys, Radion, and Uncounted—alongside a featured set by the band of Romel, the longtime drummer of Bachchu’s legendary group, LRB (Love Runs Blind).

Ayub Bachchu, who died in October 2018, remains a cornerstone of South Asian music history, revered for his pioneering guitar work, poetic songwriting, and lasting influence on Bengali popular culture.
