Rodri has arrived in Barcelona ahead of his expected move from Manchester City, with the Spain international declaring his ambition to compete for every major trophy with the Catalan giants.
The transfer has yet to be officially announced, but the 30-year-old midfielder has already travelled to Barcelona to undergo the necessary medical examinations before completing his move. British media reports suggest that Barcelona are set to pay €76.5 million to secure his services from Manchester City.
Rodri was greeted by members of the media after arriving in the city and spoke briefly about the move. For the midfielder, joining Barcelona represents the fulfilment of a long-standing ambition.
“I am very happy to be here. The last few days have been quite exciting, but I am relieved that everything is going well. Playing for Barcelona is like a dream come true,” Rodri said.
The midfielder also spoke about joining a dressing room that includes several players he already knows through his time with the Spanish national team. That familiarity, he suggested, should help him settle into his new surroundings.
“I already know most of them through the national team, and I am really looking forward to sharing a dressing room with them. Now it is time to work hard and give my best,” he said.
Rodri’s arrival would represent a major addition to Barcelona’s midfield. His reputation has been built around his composure in possession, ability to control the tempo of matches and effectiveness in both defensive and attacking phases. Those qualities have made him an influential figure at the highest level of European football.
At Barcelona, however, the focus will extend beyond individual performances. The club are expected to compete on several fronts, with the Champions League among the most significant targets.
Rodri made that ambition clear during his brief comments after arriving in Barcelona. He said the team would fight for the Champions League and every other competition placed before them.
“We will fight for the Champions League. We will fight for everything that comes our way,” he said.
The proposed move would bring an end to Rodri’s spell at Manchester City and begin a new chapter in his career in Spain. His arrival also comes with considerable expectations, given his experience at the highest level and the reported size of the transfer fee.
According to the information provided, Rodri is expected to sign his formal contract with Barcelona on Tuesday, provided the remaining procedures are completed successfully. The club then plans to officially present him to supporters on Wednesday.
Although the final announcement is still pending, Rodri’s first words after arriving in Catalonia have already made his intentions clear. He is not joining Barcelona simply to compete. His stated objective is to challenge for every available honour, with the Champions League firmly among his priorities.:::
