A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two young men early on Tuesday morning when their motorcycle lost control and crashed in Shibganj Upazila under Chapainawabganj district.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 am on Tuesday, 18 August, in the Muslimpur Takshal Dighi Culvert area of Shibganj. The fatal crash has sent shockwaves through the local community, plunging the victims’ native village into mourning.
The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Md. Abu Hayat, son of Jamir Uddin, and 18-year-old Md. Habib, son of Sadikul Islam. Both victims belonged to Baliyadighi village located within the same upazila.
According to accounts provided by eyewitnesses and local residents, Abu Hayat and Habib were returning to their village from Kansat Bazar early in the morning aboard a motorcycle. As they reached the Muslimpur Takshal Dighi Culvert stretch, the rider suddenly lost control of the vehicle. The motorcycle skidded violently across the road, pitching both occupants onto the hard tarmac.
The impact left both men with critical injuries, particularly severe trauma to the head and body. Hearing the loud screech and crash, nearby residents rushed to the scene. They promptly rescued the two bleeding victims and transported them to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical treatment. However, the attending physician at the emergency ward declared both men dead on arrival. Doctors cited excessive internal bleeding and fatal head injuries as the primary causes of death.
Officers from the Shibganj Police Station arrived at the hospital shortly after being alerted to conduct the preliminary inquest report. Motiur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station, confirmed the details of the fatal crash. He stated that a police team inspected the accident site and the hospital, adding that formal legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway.
