Madrasa Principal Arrested Over Alleged Abuse Of Student

Police in Savar, Dhaka, have arrested the principal of a madrasa over allegations that he sexually abused a 15-year-old student.

The accused has been identified as Golam Rabbani, 40, principal of a madrasa in the Tetuljhora area of Savar. Police arrested him on Wednesday afternoon, 19 August, following a complaint lodged by the student’s family.

Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nur Mohammad confirmed the arrest on Thursday, 20 August.

According to the case details, the student’s family submitted a written complaint to Savar Model Police Station after the alleged incident. Police subsequently began an investigation and took legal action after receiving the complaint. An operation was conducted and Rabbani was arrested in connection with the allegations.

Police said a case was filed on the basis of the victim’s complaint and information gathered during the preliminary investigation. Following his arrest, the accused was produced before a court.

The allegations have caused concern among parents and residents in the local community. The incident has also raised questions about the safety of students in educational institutions and the responsibility of those entrusted with their care.

Local residents have called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations. They have also demanded severe punishment if the charges are established through the legal process.

Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Alam told Kalbela that the case was filed on the basis of the victim’s complaint. He said the accused had been arrested and sent to court, while further investigation into the incident was continuing.

The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegation by examining the complaint and other available evidence. Authorities will determine the next legal steps based on the findings of the investigation.
