Man Arrested With Three Kilograms of Cannabis

Police have arrested a 51-year-old man with three kilograms of cannabis in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha, following a special anti-drug operation.

The man, identified as Bitlu Rahman, was arrested from Corona Bazar in the Habib’s Baiguni area of Shalmara Union in Gobindaganj Upazila on Wednesday night. Police said the arrest was made at around 10.30pm after they acted on confidential information about the suspected movement of illegal drugs in the area.

According to police, a team from Gobindaganj Police Station conducted the operation at the market. Bitlu Rahman was stopped after officers found his movements suspicious. A search was subsequently carried out, during which three kilograms of cannabis were allegedly recovered from his possession. He was then taken to the police station for questioning.

Bitlu Rahman is the son of the late Joban Ali of Kamarpura village in the Jumarbari Union of Saghata Upazila. Police alleged that he had been involved in supplying cannabis in different parts of Gaibandha for a considerable period. Officers also said they had previously received information regarding his alleged involvement in the supply of narcotics.

Muhammad Mozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Thursday afternoon. He said the police team carried out the operation at Corona Bazar after receiving information concerning narcotics-related activities.

The recovered cannabis has been seized as evidence, police said. A case has been filed against Bitlu Rahman under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Control Act, and he has been brought under the legal process following his arrest.

Police are now examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged supply of the cannabis. Investigators are also seeking to establish where the drugs had come from and whether anyone else was involved in transporting or distributing them.

The latest arrest comes as law enforcement agencies continue anti-drug operations in different parts of Gaibandha. Such operations typically focus on identifying suspected supply networks and intercepting narcotics before they reach local markets and users. However, police have not disclosed any further details about the suspected source of the seized cannabis or any possible wider network.

Authorities said their investigation into Bitlu Rahman’s alleged involvement and the possible participation of others is continuing.

The allegations against the arrested man remain subject to judicial proceedings. His guilt or innocence will ultimately be determined by the court through the legal process.
