A tragic domestic dispute turned fatal in Sreepur when a fifty-year-old man was killed whilst attempting to mediate a feud between his daughter and son-in-law. The incident occurred on Tuesday night inside a rented residence in the Kewa Paschimkhanda (Darogarchala) neighbourhood of Sreepur municipality, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The victim, identified as Hafiz Uddin, was the son of Sahab Uddin from Pachgaon (Uttarpara) village in the Kalmakanda sub-district of Netrokona. Hafiz Uddin had been living with his family in a rented home near the Soling Moor area of Mauna Union in Sreepur. According to local residents, the dispute escalated when Hafiz Uddin stepped in to resolve an ongoing conflict between his daughter and her husband, thirty-year-old Firoz Mia. Firoz Mia, who hails from Rangchhati in the same sub-district of Netrokona, was employed at a garment factory located in the Bairagirchala area of Sreepur municipality.
Arguments between the couple reportedly boiled over on Tuesday night at the residence owned by Monir Hossain. During the heated confrontation, Firoz Mia lost his temper and struck his father-in-law repeatedly with a wooden stick, inflicting fatal injuries upon Hafiz Uddin. Firoz Mia and his accomplices fled the scene immediately after the assault. Hafiz Uddin succumbed to his severe injuries shortly after the attack.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station, Mohammad Shahinur Alam, confirmed the details of the homicide. Police officers arrived at the scene to collect evidence and initiate inquiries. As part of the ongoing investigation, law enforcement officers detained the wife of property owner Monir Hossain for questioning regarding the events leading up to the murder.
Authorities have sent the victim’s body for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Law enforcement agencies have launched a targeted operation to track down Firoz Mia and his accomplices. Police officials assured the public that searches are actively underway across several locations, and those responsible for the fatal attack will be apprehended and brought to justice swiftly.
