A devastating incident unfolded in Sherpur’s Nalitabari upazila, where the lifeless bodies of two young children were recovered from a pond fourteen hours after they were reported missing. The heart-breaking discovery was made in the early hours of Monday at approximately 2:30 am in Madhya Nakshi village, situated within the Kolaspur union.

The victims have been identified as seven-year-old Rohan, son of Hazrat Ali, and six-year-old Ismail, son of Ebadul Islam. Both boys hailed from the same village where the tragedy occurred.

According to local accounts, the children had stepped out of their homes around midday on Sunday to play. When they failed to return by afternoon, their families grew anxious and launched an exhaustive search across the neighbourhood and surrounding fields. Despite hours of scouring the area, no trace of the boys was found until the grim discovery overnight. Villagers spotted the bodies floating in a local pond around 2:30 am, prompting immediate retrieval of the remains.

Local authorities have formally acknowledged the event. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ashrafuzzaman of Nalitabari Police Station confirmed the veracity of the incident, which has cast a profound shadow of grief over the local community.
