The 6th Bangladesh International Squash Open officially commenced on Saturday at the Dhaka Cantonment Squash Complex, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to revive the sport.
Inauguration Ceremony
The event was formally inaugurated by Major General Hasan-Uz-Zaman, President of the Bangladesh Squash Racket Federation (BSRF) and Engineer-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Army, who attended as the chief guest.
In his speech, Major General Hasan-Uz-Zaman acknowledged the federation’s dedication to promoting squash despite limited resources and infrastructure:
“With limited resources and facilities, the squash federation is working to revive the game of squash in Bangladesh and take it forward. If this trend continues, squash will undoubtedly bring honour to the country.”
Remarks from Federation Officials
Brigadier (Retd.) GM Quamrul Islam, BSRF General Secretary, stated that the tournament would serve as a valuable indicator of team preparedness ahead of the South Asian Games, scheduled for January next year.
