Police in Monpura, Bhola, have arrested a teenager following allegations that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old child after luring her into a residence with biscuits. The arrest was made after the victim’s mother lodged a formal complaint with the local police station.
The suspect, identified as 15-year-old Shakil Alam, son of Khokon Miah from the same union in Monpura, was presented before the Barisal Juvenile Court around noon on Sunday, 30 August. Concurrently, police arranged for the survivor to undergo a medical examination at the Barisal Medical College Hospital.
According to the case statement, the incident occurred at around 12:30 pm on Thursday, 27 August. The suspect allegedly enticed the young girl into his house under the pretext of giving her biscuits before locking the door and assaulting her. Hearing her screams, the child’s mother rushed to the scene and found her daughter severely ill.
Initial attempts to secure justice were delayed after local residents promised an informal mediation. However, when three days passed without any resolution or accountability, the victim’s mother approached the authorities to file a formal case under the relevant provisions of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Following the registration of the complaint, officers from the Monpura Police Station acted swiftly to apprehend the suspect.
Confirming the details of the investigation, Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Monpura Police Station, stated that the primary accused was taken into custody without delay. Given his status as a minor under 18 years of age, he was forwarded to the juvenile judicial system in Barisal. Law enforcement officials confirmed that comprehensive medical assessments are underway to support the ongoing legal proceedings and ensure a thorough investigation.
