Missing Child Found in Shariatpur After Dhaka Abduction

A seven-year-old child who went missing while playing outside his home in Dhaka’s Kafrul area has been rescued from Shariatpur, police said. A 22-year-old woman, identified as Juthi Akter, has also been arrested over her alleged involvement in the incident.

The child was rescued during an operation in the Padma Bridge South Police Station area of Shariatpur at around 3.30pm on Saturday (5 September). Juthi Akter was arrested during the same operation, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

The development was confirmed by Akhtar Hossain, deputy commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.

The child went missing on Thursday (3 September) afternoon after leaving his home to play in the East Shewrapara area of Kafrul. When he failed to return, his family members began searching for him in the surrounding areas. They also contacted people they knew and checked different locations in an effort to trace the child.

After the initial search produced no result, the family filed a general diary at Kafrul Police Station, prompting police to begin an investigation into the disappearance.

Investigators subsequently examined CCTV footage from the area. The footage reportedly showed a woman dressed in black holding the child by the hand and taking him away. The footage became a key lead as police worked to establish the child’s whereabouts.

Alongside the CCTV evidence, investigators gathered intelligence to trace the suspected movement of the child. The investigation eventually led police to Shariatpur, where an operation was conducted in the Padma Bridge South Police Station area.

The child was found during the operation and subsequently handed over to his parents after receiving initial medical treatment. Police have not provided further details about the child’s physical condition.

A case has been filed at Kafrul Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act in connection with the incident. Juthi Akter is being processed for production before a court, police said.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance, including how he was taken from Dhaka to Shariatpur and whether anyone else was involved. Police have yet to disclose a confirmed motive for the alleged abduction.

The case began with a family reporting the disappearance of a child and progressed through CCTV examination and intelligence-led investigation before the child was located outside Dhaka. The investigation remains ongoing
