A 38-year-old woman sustained gunshot injuries inside her own residence in Dhaka’s Darus Salam area on Saturday night after unidentified miscreants opened fire through an open window.
The victim, identified as Jasmeen Akhtar, was struck in her right arm whilst watching television at around 11:00 pm. Family members rushed her to a local clinic for initial aid before transferring her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for urgent surgical treatment. She is currently undergoing care at the emergency unit of DMCH, where doctors confirm her condition is stable.
According to her son, Yasin, the attack occurred entirely without warning. The family resides as tenants on the ground floor of a building owned by one Aminul Doctor near Matbbor Bari in Darus Salam. Jasmeen, whose native home is in Uttar Dalla village within the Nabinagar Upazila of Brahmanbaria, was relaxing in her living room when the bullet pierced the window screen.
Local law enforcement agencies responded promptly upon receiving reports of the shooting. Police officers visited the crime scene to collect forensic evidence, including bullet casings, and interviewed nearby residents to determine the trajectory of the gunshot.
Dulal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Darus Salam Police Station, verified the incident and stated that a dedicated investigation team had been dispatched directly to DMCH to record the victim’s official statement.
“We visited the location immediately after learning of the incident,” OC Hossain said. “A police team is currently coordinating with the victim and medical staff at DMCH. A rigorous investigation is under way to establish the motive behind this assault and identify those responsible.”
At present, investigators are exploring multiple angles, including whether the shooting was a targeted attack, the result of local gang rivalry, or an stray bullet from an external altercation. Security in the immediate vicinity has been heightened as authorities review available close-circuit television footage from surrounding streets to track down the fleeing assailants.
