According to local law enforcement, the intelligence-led drive was launched early in the day to curb petty crime, disrupt narcotics distribution, and execute pending court warrants. Among those apprehended, eight individuals face allegations linked to drug abuse and petty offenses. These suspects include Mamun Miah, 35, from Purba Behakair; Amjad Hossain, 48, and Sumon, 38, both hailing from Khamargaon; Apu, 22, from Bhargaon; Russel, 30, from Goaldi; Shafi Uddin, 38, from Habibpur; Jahangir Alam, 50, from Kutubpur; and Ramjan Hossain, 30, from Doulatpur.

Police officers also arrested Al Amin, a resident of Panchamighat, who was named in an outstanding judicial warrant. Kawsar Ahmed, 27, originally from Sherpur Sadar and currently residing as a tenant in the Badi Majlis neighbourhood of Sonargaon, was detained under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Meanwhile, Abdul Karim, 59, from Bhargaon Adampur, was taken into custody in connection with an ongoing political case.

Two additional suspects, Uzzal, 38, from Habibpur, and Md Hridoy, 23, from Badi Majlis, were apprehended under specific regular charges filed at the local police station.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station, Mohammad Abdul Barik, confirmed the arrests and stated that all thirteen individuals have been presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. He emphasized that targeted crackdowns, alongside summary trials for drug-related offenses, will remain an ongoing feature of the department’s strategy to maintain public order and eradicate illicit substances from the area.
