An Ansar member was killed after a group of assailants attacked him with sharp weapons in Tangail’s Basail upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Hanif Khan, 37, a resident of Uttarpara area in Habla Union. He was the son of the late Bir Muktijoddha Baktar Ali Khan. Hanif was reportedly serving as an Ansar member but was under temporary suspension at the time of the incident.
The attack took place at around 9pm on 8 September in the Bilpara area of Habla Union. According to police and local sources, Hanif was returning home from Bilpara market when a group of unidentified assailants attacked him on the way.
The attackers allegedly used locally made sharp weapons and struck Hanif repeatedly, leaving him critically injured. After the assault, the attackers fled the scene before local residents could intervene.

The incident has caused concern among residents in the area, with the circumstances surrounding the attack remaining unclear. Police have yet to establish why Hanif was targeted or identify those responsible.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Atikur Rahman, in charge of the police outpost at Tangail Medical College Hospital, confirmed that a seriously injured man identified as Hanif, a temporarily suspended Ansar member, had been brought to the hospital during the night. He was subsequently declared dead by the attending doctors.
The victim’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue, while the authorities are taking the necessary legal steps, police said.
Investigators are examining several possible motives behind the attack. Personal disputes, previous enmity or other circumstances may have played a role, although none of these possibilities has been confirmed. Police are also working to establish the identities of the attackers and determine how the assault unfolded.
As of the latest available information, no arrests had been reported in connection with the killing.
The investigation is expected to provide a clearer picture of the circumstances leading to the attack, including the motive and identities of those involved. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify and bring the perpetrators before the law.
