Palestinian PM Urges Hamas to Disarm and Cede Gaza Control

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on Monday issued a clear statement demanding that Hamas relinquish its authority over the Gaza Strip and surrender its arms to the Palestinian Authority, as a necessary step towards restoring peace and stability in the war-ravaged enclave.

Speaking at a high-level conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York — focused on advancing the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine — Mustafa declared:

“Israel must withdraw completely from the Gaza Strip, and Hamas must relinquish its control over the Strip and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.”

His remarks come amid mounting international pressure for a political resolution to the prolonged conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Mustafa’s call reflects the Palestinian Authority’s intention to re-establish governance in the region and to move towards national unity, contingent upon an end to Israeli occupation and the demilitarisation of rival factions such as Hamas.

The comments align with broader discussions at the UN meeting, which was co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, where regional and international leaders advocated for a political framework based on the two-state solution.
