A cement-laden lorry struck the official vehicle of Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, in Shibganj Upazila of Bogura. Although one of the doors of the vehicle sustained partial damage during the collision, the state minister was not inside the car at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:00 pm on Friday, 11 September, directly in front of the Shibganj Upazila Hospital. Police personnel positioned nearby responded promptly to the scene, taking custody of the lorry and detaining the driver’s assistant, Shakil, who was operating the heavy vehicle when the crash happened.
According to AKM Baniul Anam, Traffic Police Inspector for the Mokamtala region, the minister’s empty car was travelling from the Shibganj Upazila headquarters towards his ancestral residence in Betgari. As the vehicle passed a commercial establishment named Sheba Traders, the cement lorry was attempting to manoeuvre after unloading its cargo. The main driver was absent from the lorry, leaving Shakil at the wheel. While reversing or pulling out to the side, the lorry struck the side door of the state minister’s passing saloon.
Following the collision, law enforcement officers impounded the lorry and took Shakil into custody for questioning and preliminary verification of driving credentials.
Providing further details on the administrative action taken, Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station, Md Shahinuzzaman Shahin, stated that the principal driver, Md Shahin, subsequently presented himself to the police. Officers thoroughly verified all necessary documents, including the driver’s licence, vehicle registration certificates, and fitness paperwork. Finding all official papers in proper order, and with no compensation claimed for the minor damage, the police released the lorry and its operator without filing criminal charges.
