The deceased has been identified as Jahan Ali, 55, son of Ayub Ali, residing in the Sadarpur Madrasapara neighbourhood of Mirpur Upazila. He was travelling as a passenger aboard the bus when the collision took place.

According to police and eye-witness accounts, the passenger bus was en route from Kushtia towards Meherpur. As the vehicle negotiated the stretch of road between Katlamari and Khalisakundi, it collided head-on with an oncoming motorised three-wheeler, locally known as a nasimon, loaded with bananas. The impact shattered the front section of the bus and severely damaged the smaller utility vehicle. Jahan Ali died at the scene from collision injuries, whilst two dozen commuters across both vehicles suffered varying degrees of physical trauma.

Local residents rushed to the crash site immediately after hearing the impact to assist trapped passengers. Emergency responders and police arrived shortly afterwards to clear the damaged vehicles and manage traffic flow along the regional highway. The injured were transferred to nearby healthcare facilities, including the Gangni Upazila Health Complex and Kushtia General Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Officials noted that the identities of all injured passengers could not be confirmed immediately following the crash.

Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, Khaledur Rahman, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s body has been deposited at the Kushtia General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. He added that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, and formal legal action will proceed once the victim’s family submits a written complaint.
