Floods Claim Three Lives in Northeastern Romania: Prefecture

Severe flooding in northeastern Romania has resulted in the deaths of three people and the evacuation of hundreds, according to an official statement from the Suceava prefecture on Monday.

The fatalities include:

Victim Age Gender Location Cause
66 Male Suceava Province Body found in stream bed after flooding
89 Female Same region Died amid severe flooding
85 Female Same region Died amid severe flooding

The 66-year-old man was discovered in a stream bed after torrential rains caused multiple rivers to overflow, sweeping away everything in their path.

Authorities reported that several hundred people were evacuated from the affected areas, including by helicopter. Disturbing images shared on social media and local news channels depicted:

  • Roads blocked by mud and debris
  • Collapsed bridges
  • Uprooted trees
  • Entire communities cut off from access

Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams searching for other potential victims.

The prefecture added that although the full scope of destruction has not yet been assessed, “a considerable number” of homes and structures have suffered damage. Many remote villages remain inaccessible, further complicating relief efforts.
