Afghanistan Surpasses Bangladesh with Unwanted T20 Record Against India

Afghanistan have officially relieved Bangladesh of a dubious international record, claiming the longest active losing streak against India in Twenty20 Internationals. Following a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of the hosts in Delhi during the second match of their three-fixture T20 series, the Afghan side succumbed to their tenth consecutive loss against the Indian team.

Until this encounter, Bangladesh held the unfortunate distinction of conceding nine consecutive T20 victories to India—a streak stretching back to November 2019, when the Tigers last tasted victory over their South Asian rivals. Since that solitary triumph, every subcontinental clash between the two sides in the shortest format of the game has yielded the exact same outcome: a comfortable win for India. Afghanistan had matched Bangladesh’s tally of nine straight defeats after dropping the series opener, but the subsequent loss in the national capital pushed them past the Bangladeshi mark.

Afghanistan’s struggles against the Indian team are not a recent phenomenon. The nation has failed to register a single victory over India in T20 cricket since their first meeting in 2010. They came agonizingly close in January 2024, when a thrilling encounter ended in a tie, though India eventually secured the win via a Super Over.

Looking at the broader statistical landscape, Zimbabwe hold the third position on this list, having suffered eight consecutive defeats against India. Despite this run, the Zimbabwean narrative is far from entirely one-sided. Unlike Bangladesh, Zimbabwe have managed three T20 victories against the Indian side over the years, securing wins in 2015, 2016, and most recently in July 2024.

Bangladesh feature twice in the historical rankings for consecutive T20 losses to India. Beyond their recent nine-match slide between 2019 and 2025, they previously endured an eight-match losing run from 2009 to 2018. Ireland also recorded eight straight losses against India in the past, though the Irish side dramatically broke that streak last June by claiming back-to-back victories to seal a memorable series win.
