Several areas of Boalkhali upazila in Chattogram will experience an eight-hour power outage on Tuesday (22 September) as part of scheduled maintenance work on a local electricity distribution line.
The Boalkhali Zonal Office of Chattogram Palli Bidyut Samity-1 announced the temporary disruption in a notice issued on Monday (21 September). According to the notice, electricity supply will remain suspended from 8am to 4pm to facilitate maintenance work around the power line.
The work will be carried out on the line connected to Feeder No. 3 of the Fultala substation. Workers will trim trees and vegetation growing around the electricity line, a measure intended to allow the maintenance work to be conducted safely and to reduce potential obstructions around the network.
The affected areas include Churakhali Bridge, Oyahed Ali Pukurpar, Hansh Mahajoner Bari, Shefu Chairman’s Bari, Banglapara, Pakkir Pol, Afzal Talukdar’s Bari, Harun Chairman’s Bari, Gabtala, Beijja Pukurpar, Arab Tendal’s Bari, Jinnat Ali’s Bari, Dena Pukurpar and Lalardighi Par.
Several public and educational establishments will also fall within the area covered by the planned outage. These include Kadurkhil Union Parishad, Kadurkhil Muslim High School, Al-Quran Academy, Buddhum Fakir’s shrine and Karim Shah’s shrine, along with nearby areas.
The scheduled interruption means households, businesses and institutions in the affected locations may face temporary disruption to electricity-dependent activities during the maintenance period. Residents may therefore need to make arrangements in advance for essential activities that require electricity, particularly during the morning and afternoon hours.
The electricity authority has also clarified that the outage may not continue for the full eight hours. If the maintenance work is completed before the scheduled 4pm restoration time, electricity supply will be resumed immediately rather than waiting until the end of the planned window.
Planned maintenance of electricity distribution infrastructure is carried out to support the safe operation of the network and address potential risks associated with vegetation growing close to power lines. The temporary suspension of supply allows such work to be conducted without exposing workers or nearby residents to unnecessary electrical hazards.
The Boalkhali Zonal Office has apologised to customers in the affected areas for the temporary inconvenience and said the measure is being taken as part of efforts to maintain reliable electricity services.
