The suspects have been identified as 55-year-old Harun, a pickup driver from the Doptoripara area in Dinajpur Sadar Upazila, and 20-year-old Md Ratan, a garage mechanic residing in Shashtitola. According to traffic police officials, the two men were traveling towards Balubari from Lilir More when Sergeant Rupak Kumar Jha signalled them to pull over for a routine check regarding the unregistered vehicle.

During initial questioning, the men exhibited suspicious behaviour and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Police constables Shahnewaz and Mehedi Hasan quickly overpowered and detained them. A subsequent search carried out in the presence of Traffic Inspector Amrito Sarkar led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pipe gun, commonly known as a one-shooter, alongside four live cartridges hidden inside a red plastic bag carried by Harun. Neither man could produce valid permits or documentation for the firearm or the ammunition.

Addressing the incident, Traffic Inspector (Administration) Rahinur Islam Khan stated that officers intercepted the unregistered motorcycle as part of ongoing enforcement against unverified vehicles. The suspicious mannerisms of the riders prompted a thorough search, resulting in the recovery of the weapon and ammunition.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic and Estate) Suman Ranjan Sarkar confirmed that both men were transferred to Kotwali Police Station alongside the seized items to facilitate legal proceedings under the Arms Act. Police records further revealed that Harun is a repeat offender with a prior robbery case registered against him at Kotwali Police Station. The two suspects are scheduled to appear before a local court on Wednesday as investigations into the origin and intended use of the weapon continue.
