Law enforcement officers in Savar have arrested three young men following a targeted police raid that led to the recovery of an imported pistol, a magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition. The operation took place on Thursday afternoon at West Rajashan Palwanpara, located within the jurisdiction of Savar Model Police Station.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammad Hossain, 22, Piyal, 22, and Emon, 24.
Acting on a specific tip-off regarding the presence of illegal arms, a specialized tactical team led by Sub-Inspector Abdullah Al Masud conducted the raid around 4:30 pm. The operational team included Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nesar, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kamal Bashar. Police officers converged on a residential property owned by local resident Omar Palwan in West Rajashan Palwanpara.
Upon surrounding an abandoned room on the premises, officers detained the three suspects. A search of the room and the individuals yielded a foreign-made pistol, an accompanying magazine, and eight rounds of live ammunition. All three suspects were taken into custody immediately, and the arms and ammunition were seized as evidence.
Savar, an industrial hub situated on the outskirts of Dhaka, has seen increased police vigilance in recent months aimed at curbing violent crime, extortion, and illegal firearms trade. Local authorities have stepped up intelligence-led operations across residential and commercial zones to maintain law and order.
Saiful Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, confirmed the arrests and stated that a formal case under the Arms Act has been registered against the three individuals. Police are currently processing the suspects for legal presentation before the court. Investigators are also conducting primary interrogations to determine how the suspects obtained the foreign-made weapon, whether it was connected to previous criminal activities, or if additional associates are involved in the local arms network.
