A police constable stationed at the Natore Superintendent of Police office faces severe allegations after allegedly severing the finger of an eight-year-old boy following a minor dispute between children. The incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Boro Harishpur West Chairmanpara residential area of Natore town. The accused officer, Constable Shakil, resides as a tenant in the property owned by the victim’s family. The young victim is the son of Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan Milan, a senior officer at the Janata Bank Local Branch in Dhaka.
According to family accounts, the incident stems from a small quarrel during a social gathering hosted by the victim’s mother on Wednesday evening. The gathering invited resident tenants, including the constable’s family. During the event, two young children engaged in a brief scuffle whilst playing. The mothers intervened immediately, resolving the minor disagreement amicably on the spot.
However, the situation took a horrific turn the following morning. Mahmudul Hasan alleged that Constable Shakil summoned his eight-year-old son into his rented room, where the officer’s wife was also present. The constable then allegedly used a sharp knife to sever a finger on the boy’s right hand.
The injured child was rushed to Natore Modern Sadar Hospital with severe bleeding. Medical personnel administered urgent first aid, but given the severity of the injury, doctors transferred the child to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for specialized surgical intervention. Expressing deep distress over the brutal assault on his young child, Mahmudul Hasan demanded a transparent investigation and strict legal prosecution of those responsible.
Adding to the family’s distress, the victim’s relatives revealed that the constable attempted to deflect accountability by submitting a false allegation of sexual assault against the eight-year-old boy directly to the Natore Superintendent of Police. However, medical authorities quickly dismissed these claims. Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Residential Medical Officer at Natore Modern Sadar Hospital, confirmed that hospital records contain no evidence or reports regarding any such incident involving the eight-year-old patient.
Repeated telephone attempts to reach Constable Shakil for comment went unanswered. Addressing the matter, Additional Superintendent of Police in Natore, Mohammad Iftekhar Alam, confirmed that law enforcement leadership is aware of the situation. He stated that an official investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events, assuring that formal legal procedures will follow once the official complaint is processed.
