The convict, identified as Mohammad Monir Hossain, is the son of the late Afsar Uddin, hailing from Kuripara village under Bandar upazila.

Alongside the life sentence, the court handed down a fine of 5,000 taka. Inspector Abdus Samad of the Court Police confirmed that failure to pay the fine would require Monir to serve an additional two months of rigorous imprisonment. Following the pronouncement, the judge issued a conviction warrant, and the convict was escorted under armed guard to the central jail to begin his sentence.

Case records reveal that the heinous crime occurred on the morning of 18 July 2022. At approximately 9:30 am, the 10-year-old victim was assaulted inside her family home in Kuripara. Following the incident, the survivor’s mother approached the local police station and formally registered a case under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act against Monir Hossain as the sole accused.

Police officers assigned to the case launched a prompt investigation, securing medical evidence from the victim and recording official statements. After completing all procedural formalities and gathering forensic reports, investigating officers submitted a formal charge sheet to the court on 12 March 2023, recommending Monir’s trial on rape charges.

During the subsequent trial proceedings, the tribunal examined multiple prosecution witnesses, including medical personnel and investigating officers. The defence and prosecution presented their arguments before the judge concluded that the charges were proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Legal experts and child rights activists in the district welcomed the tribunal’s decisive ruling, noting that swift judicial outcomes send a strong deterrent message against sexual violence targeting minors. Family members of the victim expressed relief at the verdict, acknowledging that justice had finally been served after a rigorous legal process lasting over two years.
