Police officers in Dhaka have detained 492 suspects and registered 29 criminal cases following a series of coordinated raids conducted across the capital over a 24-hour period. Details of the city-wide operation were released on Tuesday by the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The division-by-division breakdown published by law enforcement highlights the widespread scope of the crackdown across various municipal sectors. Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of detentions with 106 individuals taken into custody, closely followed by Tejgaon Division where officers arrested 105 suspects.
Elsewhere in the metropolis, Wari Division detained 69 individuals, Motijheel Division processed 61 arrests, and Lalbagh Division held 45 suspects. Meanwhile, Gulshan Division accounted for 42 detentions, Uttara Division arrested 35 people, and Ramna Division took 26 suspects into custody. Specialized units also contributed to the operational tallies, with the Detective Branch (DB) arresting two individuals and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit apprehending one suspect.
During the search operations, police officers seized significant quantities of illegal narcotics and stolen property. Seizures included four kilograms of cannabis, 4,533 Yaba tablets, and 75 bottles of Phensedyl syrup. Officers also recovered 11 stolen mobile phone handsets and successfully rescued one victim during a targeted intervention.
The coordinated crackdown reflects ongoing efforts by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to curb street crime, dismantle illicit drug distribution networks, and apprehend fugitive warrant holders across the capital’s eight operational divisions. Senior police officials confirmed that all detained individuals have been handed over to relevant police stations, where formal legal proceedings under existing narcotics and criminal statutes are currently underway before their presentation in court.
