The operation took place at approximately 5:30 am on Tuesday, 29 September, in the Omarpur Hodatpara area of Shyampur Union. Officers surrounded the home of 35-year-old Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, son of the late Mofiz Uddin, before conducting a thorough search of the premises.

Major Monjurul Kabir Piyal, second-in-command of SRB-5’s Rajshahi headquarters company, confirmed the details of the raid. He stated that tactical units acted on precise intelligence regarding a major narcotics consignment stored in the border region. Upon confronting law enforcement personnel, Mehedi Hasan disclosed the location of the hidden contraband under interrogation.

Following the suspect’s directions, officers searched an outhouse used for storing firewood in front of the residential dwelling. Hidden amongst the stacked timber, team members uncovered multiple packages containing 6.751 kilograms of high-grade heroin.

During preliminary questioning, Hasan admitted to holding the substantial narcotics haul in his custody for commercial distribution. Investigators revealed that Hasan and an absconding accomplice, identified as Al-Mamun, had been procuring heroin for a considerable period to supply illicit drug markets across Chapainawabganj and the broader Rajshahi Division.

Border districts like Chapainawabganj frequently serve as transit corridors for illicit narcotics entering regional smuggling networks, prompting law enforcement agencies to intensify rural surveillance and intelligence-led operations.

A formal case under the Narcotics Control Act has been registered against Mehedi Hasan at Shibganj Police Station, where he was formally handed over along with the seized evidence. Meanwhile, joint security teams have launched targeted operations across neighboring districts to trace and apprehend Al-Mamun, who evaded arrest during the initial raid.
